Launching a Carving Workshop at the Traditional Arts Research Institute

Mohammad Ali Vadood, the head of the stone carving workshop, told the Mirath Arya (chtn) reporter: This workshop has been launched with the aim of reviving the field of stone carving at the Research Institute for Traditional Arts and Handicrafts of the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization.
He added: Launching this workshop alongside other workshops in this research institute can be a good opportunity to revive this ancient art of the country and provide a basis for its further growth among young people and enthusiasts.
Vadood continued to focus on the art of stone carving and said: This art is called stone carving in the general sense, stone carving, and in the sense of handicrafts, carving, which is done on Marmara and Terra stones.
He said: The original art of stone carving is 3,800 years old, the most famous example of which can be seen in the works of Persepolis in Shiraz.
According to this artist, there are now few people who are active in the field of traditional stone carving because this field is not valued.
He stated: This original art has become a forgotten treasure of Iranian art that needs to be revived.
Vadood continued: Now most artists in this field are active in the field of transforming stone into designs, writing and sculpture.
He stated: Stone carving is one of the fields of handicrafts that, in addition to calligraphy and engraving, also includes pantography and portrait painting.
This stone carving artist stated: Most stone carvers work with new devices such as "mills", but working with traditional tools has a different passion.
Vadood stated: Our art is not taken as seriously as it should be, while this art has a history and history of several thousand years.
He pointed out the high cost of goods and raw materials and added: The price of a raw stone measuring 1.80 by 60 centimeters is more than 3 million rials.
According to artists and some handicraft experts, the art of carving in Iran needs to flourish again.
